In 2019, North Sea Fossils was given the opportunity to build a complete permanent exhibition for Historyland in Hellevoetsluis. We jumped at the chance, of course. The exhibition takes visitors of all ages back millions of years to a period when sperm whales and basking sharks measuring eighteen meters long ruled the roost. All inspired by fossil discoveries from Dutch soil! In the gallery, you’ll experience how paleontologists dredge fossils from the seabed, prepare them, study them, name them, and reconstruct them. It’s as if the past is brought back to life!
Everything, except for the animated film, was created and/or supplied by us. Several remarkable eye-catchers are on display, such as the fossil skeleton of the 8-million-year-old Nehalaennia devossi, the ancestor of the dof line, and a matching life-size model; a rare, large tooth from a massive sperm whale; and many other finds!
